
This
lion's head shaped rhyton, discovered at Mycenae,
dates from the 16th century BCE. It shows Minoan influence in
the general form, but is less naturalistic, and shows the geometric
theme of Mycenaean art.
Rhyta
were vases used for ritual purposes. They have an inlet an outlet
hole, and were likely used in funeral libations.
